3 advantages of training before studying medicine. Be it because your NC is not good enough, or you want to gain experience in the healthcare sector, an apprenticeship is often a very good choice. We explain why this is the case in this article.
First of all: There is no "right" or "wrong"!
What exactly do we mean by that? The point is that there is never a right or wrong way to study medicine! High school graduates who prefer to spend 5 years travelling before studying medicine are no more or less on the right path than anyone else who starts immediately after graduating from high school. In the end, it simply depends on what your goals are and what you value most in life.
What can definitely be assessed, however, is the efficiency, speed, effort and cost of different routes into medical school. Which of these aspects is particularly important to you is entirely up to you.

If you have a Education in the healthcare sector, you have many different options. Some are more appealing than others! However, the bottom line is that each of these training programmes requires your full commitment and is guaranteed to push you to your limits.

While you are completing your training, you will learn the vvarious skillsthat will help you a great deal in your medical studies and later in your career as a doctor. Above all, this includes communication and dealing with patients. You learn how to deal with patients in certain situations. And this is something that only develops over time and is definitely not something you learn at the beginning of medical school.
Depending on your training, you will also learn other important skills that will make the clinical part of your medical studies easier. Whether it's placing an IV, writing an ECG or listening with a stethoscope. This prior knowledge will give you a great deal of confidence during your studies.
2. you are sure about your decision
Many school leavers have a false image of a career as a doctor. This is usually wishful thinking, which leads to a lot of disappointment after graduation. To avoid studying for 6 years and then realising that the medical profession is not for you after all, an apprenticeship is a great choice.
In most training programmes, you get to know the work of a doctor pretty well. You also realise that it's not just about treating patients, there's also a lot of paperwork involved. You are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the profession.
Once you have completed your training, there is still enough time for you to take a different path if necessary. Or you are more sure of yourself than ever and are highly motivated to study medicine.
