The Second Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague is located on the premises of the University Hospital in Motol, where the majority of clinical teaching takes place with both paediatric and adult patients.
The integration into one of the largest and most modern hospitals in Europe makes it possible to offer comprehensive training in all medical fields, enriched with expertise in specialised areas of paediatrics.
The theoretical courses are mainly taught at the new campus at Plzenska 311. The Department of Anatomy and its autopsy rooms, which were completed in 2019, are the newest and largest in the Czech Republic and are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Our low student-to-faculty ratio creates an intimate faculty where the atmosphere is almost family-like. We offer the study of general medicine to students from all over the world in English as the language of instruction. The faculty is easily accessible by transport within the metropolis and is close to the international airport.

Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University
Charles University, founded in 1348, is one of the oldest universities in Europe. The Faculty of Medicine has been part of Charles University since its foundation. The Second Faculty of Medicine became independent in 1953 as the Faculty of Paediatrics. Therefore, the focus is traditionally on developmental aspects of medicine and paediatric disciplines, but we offer a complete education in both adult and paediatric medicine. The programme lasts six years and graduates are awarded the title MD.
According to the QS World University Rankings 2024, Charles University is one of the 250 best universities in the world, i.e. among the elite 1.5 per cent, and is number one in the Czech Republic.
According to the International Council for the Evaluation of Creative Activities (2021), research in the field of paediatric haematology and Oncology is one of the flagships of biomedical research at the university, and numerous clinical institutes are among the top universities.
The degree programme is recognised in Germany, Austria and other countries of the European Union as well as outside Europe.
Accreditation by the Medical Board of California makes it easier for our graduates to work in the United States. The Second Faculty is one of the smaller faculties. The favourable faculty-to-student ratio of 1:2 (in the English-language programme) and an individual approach improve the quality of teaching. As an international student, you basically know all your colleagues, so you can rely on friendliness and support within the group.
As a student of the Second Faculty, you can choose from a variety of study exchange programmes and internships abroad. You can spend a semester or the entire academic year at one of our partner universities in Europe and worldwide; complete a practical internship in hospitals and medical institutes worldwide; or participate in humanitarian medical missions. Pre-graduate students can also participate in the research of our faculty, both in theoretical and clinical subjects (basic and applied research).
Admission procedure at the second medical faculty in Prague
To realise your dream of a Studying medicine abroad at Charles University in Prague in the Czech Republic, you still have one last hurdle to overcome: Because before the university allocates study places, you must have successfully passed the entrance exam as admission. The entrance exam (as a multiple choice test) contains questions from biology, chemistry and physics, as well as some additional "logic questions". The content of the entrance test does not exceed the content of a complete secondary school education in the subjects of biology, chemistry and physics.
If it's been a while since you were at school or if you didn't take one of the two subjects in the sixth form, there's no need to worry.
