Studying medicine: Immediate university place with a 1.4? There are no two opinions about the years of hard work behind this final grade. Work that should actually pay off after graduation! But is that really the case? Is it possible with this A-level average Study medicine? If so, is the cut alone enough? We'll answer these questions for you:

NC 1.4: In which quota do you have the best chances?

The admission procedure at state universities in Germany is based on 3 fixed quotas, which the universities must adhere to.

These determine what percentage of study places are to be allocated via the respective quota.

  1. Baccalaureate quota
  2. Selection procedure of the universities
  3. Central suitability quota

Best Abitur quota: University place with 1.4?

30% of the study places are allocated via the Abitur best quota. This means that the best of the best get to study medicine. Is a 1.4 average still one of the top degrees in Germany?

Difficult! The results you need to achieve to get a place via the best quota vary from year to year. In general, however, you only have good chances up to an average of 1.2. Beyond that, you should not expect to be offered a place immediately in the following semester.

University selection process: The best chances with a 1.4?

In fact, these odds offer you the best chances! The reason?

Your excellent A-level average is offset against other decisive criteria, but still plays an important role.

In addition, 60% of the study places are allocated via this quota. In this quota, you will be competing with everyone whose average was not good enough for the top Abitur quota. Among your fellow applicants, however, you have one of the best chances due to your top NC!

But your average alone is not enough in this quota! Only with your NCyou won't get a place here either.

This is the quickest way to get a place at university with an average of 1.4

Studying medicine: Do you get a place straight away with a 1.4? Unfortunately, the answer is "no". Your average is very good, but you will most likely have to fulfil another criterion to be able to study medicine.

The TMS is the solution. However, to achieve a sufficient result and get the necessary additional points in the AdH, you need to be perfectly prepared! This doesn't just apply to applicants with a 2 in front of the decimal point.

You can easily do this by waiting one year before taking the TMS. Don't take it straight after your Abitur! Even with a 1.4 you need a top result and you probably won't be able to get it straight after your Abitur.
